Anton Liagusha's lecture: "What and Why Do We Remember About Our Cities?"

Our perceptions of cities are shaped not only by architecture, official narratives, or myths. Personal memories and stories that fill the space and that we share with others also play a crucial role.

Why do certain events, places, and figures persist in urban memory while others go unnoticed? Who influences what we remember and what we forget? How does the memory of places, people, and events shape our sense of belonging to a city and our local identities?

On September 16 at 6:00 PM, together with historian Anton Liagusha, we will discuss the multiplicity of urban histories, memory as a way to navigate the world, and how the past shapes our perceptions of ourselves today.

We will reflect on why a city can have many versions of the past, how these voices coexist, complement, or contradict one another, and whether we can speak of a shared memory in such a case.

Anton Liahusha is a Doctor of Philosophy and an expert in public history, historical narratology, and media communications. In his research and public activities, he focuses on issues of memorialization, societal reflection on loss, historical trauma, and the role of ego-documents in shaping historical science regarding the contemporary war.
