Czech Culture Day
Czech Culture Day — December 5th at DCCC.
At 6:00 PM, we will open the pop-up exhibition "The Path to Freedom" about the events of the "Velvet Revolution" in Prague. Photos by Dana Kyndrová show how the year 1989 changed the communist face of Eastern Europe. This exhibition is about resistance to the totalitarian regime and the mass demonstrations that led to political changes in Czechoslovakia.
At 6:30 PM, we will screen the film "Citizen Havel," which looks behind the scenes at the political and private dramas of Václav Havel — the Czech dissident, playwright, politician, the last president of Czechoslovakia, and the first president of independent Czechia.
The film by Pavel Koutecký and Miroslav Janek covers Havel's years as president, from official negotiations to private, everyday moments when the cameras were not around. The filming took over 13 years—from 1992 until the president's term ended in 2003. It is a portrait of a man who remained himself even in the highest state office.
The film is in Czech, with Ukrainian subtitles.
Following the screening, you will have the opportunity to speak with representatives of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ukraine.
Admission is free, with mandatory registration.
Location: Ground floor. Krutohirnyi Uzviz, 21A (entrance from Uspenska Square).
