"Open Studio" at Artsvit Gallery: Asya Yakovlieva

On September 19, Artsvit Gallery will host an open studio with artist Asya Yakovleva.

"Open Studio" is a series of meetings with artists working across various media. The project creates a space for the exchange of experiences, working methods, and ideas, as well as for professional interaction among artists and the local cultural community.

This time, participants will have the opportunity to get acquainted with Asya Yakovleva's practice, discuss her work with materials, and try out one of her methods in practice.

Program: 11:00 — workshop at Artsvit Gallery. By registration, limited number of spots available. 15:00 — artist talk at Artsvit Gallery. Free admission, no registration required. 18:00 — informal gathering at Dniprostir (Riverport, 1 Desantnykiv Square).

Asya Yakovleva works with graphics, textiles, embroidery, beads, and sculpture. The artist pays special attention to fragile and decorative materials traditionally associated with care.

Using decorative practices, Asya explores the possibility of speaking about vulnerability and trauma through delicate materials.

At the artist talk, the artist will discuss how personal experience can transform into a visual language and change familiar things: "It is important for me to show how, through material, decoration, and handcraft, we can speak about complex and painful topics without losing sensitivity to them."

The workshop will focus on using decorative practices as a way to talk about one's own experiences. Participants will create a small textile work, freely choosing an image or symbol they wish to reinterpret.
