Rresentation of the LIMBO record by Viktoriia Vitrenko
On February 23 at 17:00 in DCCC will host the presentation of the LIMBO record and a performative lecture by singer and conductor Viktoriia Vitrenko.
LIMBO — this is a vocal journey through uncertainty, and at the same time, a deeply personal project. It explores the state of waiting—in its broader poetic sense and in its unbearably concrete manifestations. Most of the music was composed in 2021 and is dedicated to Viktoriia’s friend, flutist Maria Kalesnikava, who is currently serving an eleven-year prison sentence in Belarus.
Commissioned by Vitrenko, the vocal cycles by Agata Zubel, Alla Zagaykevych, Ying Wang, and Sven-Ingo Koch, along with excerpts from Maksim Shalygin’s 2009–2012 cycle, immerse listeners in an atmosphere of transit and liminality, focusing on those trapped between worlds.
LIMBO will be released on the new Ukrainian label for experimental music Kyiv Dispatch, initiated by Ukho Music Agency.
During the performative lecture, Viktoriia will perform excerpts from the album, explain the logic behind the compositions, and demonstrate some of the vocal techniques used in the works, including mormorando, Sprechgesang, traditional Ukrainian singing, bel canto, and extended vocal techniques. Additionally, fragments of the Limbo audiovisual installation, created in collaboration with RADAR studio, will be presented.
The event will take place in the cinema hall, 1st floor.
Free admission, register via the link.
Limited seating available.
The project is realized in collaboration with Goethe-Institut Ukraine.
