Screening of the film "The Living"

On May 8 at 18:30, we’re screening the film "The Living" (Serhiy Bukovsky, 2008, 75 min) at the DCCC Cinema.

The Holodomor genocide is woven into the broader global context of the 1930s: the aftermath of the Great Depression in the United States, Hitler’s rise to power in Germany, and Stalin’s man-made famine that annihilated millions of Ukrainian peasants. These people had been fighting for their rights but, by 1933, were stripped of any agency and starved to death. The film also sheds light on Stalin’s brutal crackdown on national communism and any expression of independent national policy.

A key narrative thread in the film is British journalist Gareth Jones, whose account of the Ukrainian tragedy went unheard in the West. His story is complemented by testimonies from Holodomor survivors.

Location: First floor, DCCC Cinema.

The cinema space has a capacity of 50 people, so entry is by registration only.
