Screening of the movie "Noble Impulses of the Soul"

On April 30, at 18:30, the DCCC cinema will host a screening of the film "Noble Impulses of the Soul" by Vitalii Matukhno.

"Noble Impulses of the Soul" is a visual portrait of Lysychansk, crafted from the archival materials of the "Aktsent" TV channel. Through the channel’s peculiar narrative and the conditions in which these archives were found, the film creates a surreal image of the city.

The city attempts to ignore its problems, living in a distorted reality while seemingly bracing for a new collapse. The film's characters often speak of the future, expressing hopes and dreams, yet they have not yet faced the coming reality—one of total destruction and a sense of abandonment.

The film follows two parallel lines: footage from the past through the lens of "Aktsent" TV, and events unfolding between 2014 and 2022. This is our present and the future that has already arrived for the city. We witness a complete decline caused by the war in Ukraine and the deindustrialization of Donbas—processes that began in the 90s, though their consequences only became starkly visible in the 2010s.

"The future has taken a backseat because, for the Lysychansk documented by 'Aktsent' TV, it hasn't arrived yet. But we can already see how the city is preparing for it. Especially considering I found the channel's archival tapes on the floor amidst a pile of dust, broken glass, and bricks—ruin was the future even for the archival films themselves," says Vitalii Matukhno.

Admission is free upon registration.

The screening is held as part of the exhibition "The Third Revision. Not Tomorrow, Not Yesterday. Not the End, Not the Beginning."
