Screening of the program "Deferred Premiere"

On November 13 at 6:30 PM, the DCCC cinema will host the screening of the program "Deferred Premiere" — the first public presentation of unique artifacts from the history of Ukrainian experimental cinema.

In the first half of the 1990s, the "National Cinematheque of Ukraine" film studio (formerly "Kyivnaukfilm") created a number of films about the Ukrainian art avant-garde. Some of these bravely stepped outside the boundaries of standard educational or scientific films, conveying the artistic avant-garde through the means of experimental cinema.

At the time, these films had no chance of making it to the big screen, and most of them were met with complete oblivion. In 2024, the Kinotron Group discovered some of these films in the archive of the "National Cinematheque of Ukraine" studio and digitized them for the first time in proper quality.

S. Parajanov. Deferred Premiere" (1995, 15 min, Yuriy Repik)

The film is based on screen tests for Parajanov’s unfilmed project, Kyiv Frescoes—materials that were accidentally discovered in the early 1990s. Repik's work itself nearly repeated the fate of Kyiv Frescoes: shortly after its creation, the film virtually disappeared.

Exter. Portrait Without a Face" (1994, 30 min, Yuriy Zmorovych)

A film about the avant-garde artist Oleksandra Ekster, shot by Yuriy Zmorovych, who was known as a director, musician, performer, sculptor, media artist, and poet. In the film, he employs virtually every one of these artistic disciplines, as well as elements of new cinema genres that emerged in the 90s: the action film and the erotic film.

"Victory Over the Sun. Epilogue" (1994, 30 min, Maksym Bernadskyi)

The screen shows the year 1994, with artists Tiberiy Silvashi, Oleh Tistol, and Oleksandr Solovyov discussing the art collectives "Picturesque Reserve" and "Paris Commune" at an exhibition in Ukrainian House. Over thirty-something years later, we witness the same conversations performed by the same people. Yet, some of the statements made in the film sound unexpected, to say the least, today.

Programmer: Oleksiy Radynski.

Admission is free, with mandatory registration.

The screening is held with the assistance of the National Cinematheque of Ukraine.

The DCCC Cinema is a space for independent cinema in Dnipro, a platform for discussing contemporary cinematography, documentary filmmaking, and audiovisual art. It focuses on screening auteur and experimental films.
