Screening of the short film selection "Swallows, I Give the Green Light"
On September 18 at 18:30, we will be screening a selection of short films about love during wartime by directors Diana Anikieieva and Nadia Parfan at the DCCC cinema.
These are stories about intimacy, love, and relationships in the reality of war. The characters in the films learn to be together despite distance, traumatic experiences, and uncertainty.
"Swallows, I Give the Green Light" (dir. Diana Anikieieva)
Elina and Sasha are a couple in love who use wheelchairs and are building a shared home and egalitarian relationship. Elina has lived with a disability since childhood, while Sasha ended up in a wheelchair after being wounded near Bakhmut. While he learns to live in this new reality, memories of the war pull him back into the past time and time again.
"Tell Me a Fairy Tale" (dir. Diana Anikieieva)
Two Ukrainian military personnel become a symbol of queer visibility during the war, yet behind the public couple's image, their relationship gradually crumbles under the pressure of distance, jealousy, and unspoken traumas. The film received a Special Mention at the Sunny Bunny International Queer Film Festival (Kyiv) and a special distinction at the Mykolaichuk OPEN festival (Chernivtsi).
"It's a Date" (dir. Nadia Parfan)
This is a story about the capital of a country undergoing a full-scale war, where life in all its manifestations never stops. At dawn, a car races through Kyiv at breakneck speed. When it finally brakes, a person in camouflage steps out. They are being waited for. The film "It's a Date" received a Special Jury Mention at the Berlin International Film Festival (2023).
